"It's all your incompetent mother! You wicked queen!" The King accuses Elise of this and brutally beats her. Her injuries worsen, and she dies.
Pretending to have died, she leaves the castle, intending to lead the tyrannical King to ruin with her concubine, Lumiere. Unaware of the situation, Flegel, a horse breeder, takes a liking to Elise, who hides her identity as a commoner in a provincial town. But he, too, harbors a secret he cannot tell anyone.
Those who hide their pasts are drawn to each other. This is the story of the short 25-year life of a rare "wicked queen."
